Abstract
This case is composed of two parts, namely case text and supplementary materials, and focuses on the impact of work motivation on individual behavior and job design. The text describes the process of Luo Yilun, a 38-year-old senior employee of a real estate agency in Taiwan, transferring from the headquarters to the company’s Hangzhou branch. There is a detailed description of the company and the market before and after the transfer, as well as Luo's thinking. It shows the influence of career development, salary, family, values and other factors on an individual’s behavior. The supplementary materials provide two very different story backgrounds to illustrate the impact of significant others’ attitudes on Chinese people's motivational model. This succinct case story includes the main factors affecting behavior and shows dynamic motivational changes. It can help students understand the self-determination theory more deeply and offer valuable lessons for management such as job design.
