Abstract
To be digitally empowered by major Internet platforms was once considered the ideal path for the digital transformation of traditional enterprises. However, in recent years, a growing number of these companies have realized they had to take it upon themselves to explore the right path forward for their own business. This series of cases describes how Meet All Group, a regional supermarket chain in China, incubated an e-commerce platform Global Leap to turn its business around and set out to digitally empower the entire supermarket industry.
Case (A) focuses on Meet All’s incubation of Global Leap and their co-creation of a digital empowerment model. To facilitate their digital transformation, Meet All and Global Leap worked together to forge a consensus among executives, advance digitalized businesses, and continuously innovate their business model.
In Case (B), Global Leap proceeded to empower the supermarket sector by offering digital solutions. Given the concerns of empowered supermarkets that their value might be encroached by a centralized empowering model, Global Leap came up with a new decentralized model to empower other businesses in a more equal and cooperative manner.
In recent years, many industry leaders have shared their digital transformation experience and capabilities to help empower the entire industry. These two cases aim to provide relevant theories and topics for discussion by looking into this phenomenon.
