Abstract
The CPC Central Committee issued an “eight-point code” prohibiting extravagance and waste at the end of 2012. This policy caused an upset in the restaurant industry, and many companies suffering losses looked to transform themselves. Xiangeqing Group reacted quickly to the significant changes in the operational environment. When its initial shift to exploit the popular restaurant market didn’t pan out, the company turned to a diversification strategy and entered into environmental protection, film and culture, and the internet/big data industry in turn. This case will demonstrate and analyze the causes, paths and outcomes of Xiangeqing Group’s strategic transformation, in order to help students better understand strategic transformation, capital operations, diversification and M&A.
