Abstract

On July 1, 2019, investment manager Zhang Wei received an investor''s call. The investor intended to purchase shares of Alibaba or JD.com and needed investment advice. Alibaba and JD.com are the top two players in the Chinese e-commerce business. They all started from e-commerce and were listed in 2014. After the IPO, Alibaba and JD.com are heading to different ways on their own roads based on the different business models. Which one has more investment value? As a graduate from business school, Zhang Wei decided to determine the investment value and investment risk of the two companies through financial statement analysis and provide investment advice.
