Abstract

Digital reading is an increasingly common form of reading in the Internet age, making books more portable and book buying faster and easier than ever. This case analyzes the state of digital reading platform competition. Case (A) is divided into two parts: the first part overviews the elements of the ecosystem of the digital reading platform, and the second part describes three major global digital reading platform competitors – Amazon, Apple and Google – and their evolution in detail. Case (B) is also divided into two parts: the first part also overviews the digital reading platform ecosystem, and the second part introduces the development of six Chinese platform models including those of Shengda, Baidu, Hanwang, Fangzheng, China Mobile, and Century Publishing.
