Abstract
This case describes the medium-sized company Kane Top's explorations in sustainable development. Kane Top is more than an OEM partner of world-famous apparel brands, as it has proven design prowess. After realizing in 2018 that sustainable fashion was here to stay, the founder Macy Yau made sustainable development part of the company's corporate strategy and promoted the philosophy of sustainability across the industry chain.
At the same time, she initiated digital supply chain transformation and launched the company's own brand in a bid to develop sustainability capabilities and practices.
Kane Top's sustainability transformation was well-received by industry insiders and the general public. That success story ended in 2020 as challenges arose both within and outside the company: Kane Top refused to do business with companies that showed poor or dubious sustainability performances, setting limits on its own development; the global outbreak of the coronavirus strand, Covid-19, dealt a blow to raw materials supply and market demand.
