Abstract
The Chinese government introduced two broad social development initiatives in 2006 with the objective of addressing the increasing gap in economic and other measures of development among segments of society and regions in China. Firms, especially multinationals like IBM, need to consider how to respond to these initiatives. This case elicits discussion of how to integrate critical stakeholder management with corporate strategy.
